Facebook’s New ‘Buy’ Button is the Future of Social Media

Last week, Facebook announced they are testing a new method allowing marketers to generate revenue through the social media network.

A “Buy” call-to-action button will be placed on certain advertisements that pop-up through on a user’s newsfeed. Customers will be able to purchase the product listed by simply clicking the button, as they have the option to store their credit card and billing information with Facebook.

The large social media company says, “We’ve built this feature with privacy in mind, and have taken steps to help make the payment experience safe and secure.”

If the test runs prove to be successful, this is huge news for all eCommerce brands.

Currently, a main goal of marketing on Facebook is to generate brand awareness and create a buzz for your company. With this buy button, you can now use the network as a means to physically sell your product and track ROI.

The test is currently being conducted with a “few small and medium-sized businesses” and Facebook has promised to provide more information as the results of the experiment become more clear.

It also remains to be seen whether these ads will only appear on the newsfeed of people who follow the company or on those who do not, as well.

This could be the turning point for eCommerce brands starting to monetize social media networks.
